Do you ever wonder where the name “hoa tam giác mạch” came from?
A legend tells of the Rice and Corn Fairies sowing their seeds on Earth, with their husks and chaff accidentally scattered into a mountain crevice. Years later, a famine struck, leaving people desperate for food. A mysterious fragrance led them to a field of tiny flowers with triangular leaves. The people discovered these flowers, later named "tam giác mạch" (buckwheat flower), to be a nourishing food source. Since it originated from the husks of rice and corn, they called it “mạch” (meaning grains), and because its leaves were triangular, they added “tam giác” (meaning triangle). Therefore, the flower became a symbol of hope and resilience for the community.
Beyond the stunning floral displays, the Ha Giang Buckwheat Flower Festival 2024 offers a rich cultural experience. Immerse yourself in the vibrant traditions of the local ethnic minority groups, such as the H’mong, Dao and Lo Lo. Witness their colourful costumes, listen to their soulful music from signature music instrument “khèn” and savouring some delicious traditional cuisines.
