ITINERARY
Day 1 LUANG PRABANG
On arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to check in the hotel.
After a soft rest, your city tour begins with a visit to the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, which represents classical Laotian architecture. After that, you will visit Royal Palace Museum, which hosts a range of interesting artifacts. From there, we ascend the 329 steps to the top of Phousi Hill for the panoramic view of the city and the Mekong River.
Transfer, late in the afternoon, to attend a traditional Baci ceremony. This is a collective ritual asking the spirits to bring good luck, happiness and prosperity to those who are present. It is practiced on many occasions, from the birth of a child to an inauguration. After the young people pay respect to the elders, a mantra reciting begins to summon the spirits to join the participants. It is also an opportunity to discover traditional Lao dances.
Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Day 2 LUANG PRABANG–PAK OU – MEKONG KAYAKING EXPERIENCE        (B/L)
We start off in Luang Prabang heading North on 13rd Road to a Khmu village of Ban Somsanouk where a short introduction to paddling and the basics of kayaking will be given. We then head off downstream where there are some easy rapids!
Along the way on the Nam Ou River, we see the beautiful cliffs and authentic villages. We carry on downstream once again until stopping for a delicious picnic lunch which is prepared for us in the most scenic of locations, a beautiful white sandbank set amongst some amazing surroundings!
After lunch and taking a relaxing break and swim we carry onwards once again. The afternoon is spent paddling in a calmer section of the Nam Ou and on the Mekong River (according to your option).
Along the way, there is plenty of time to watch the villagers fishing and harvesting river weed which they dry out, season and fry to make a tasty snack! We stop at the famous Pak Ou (Buddha) Cave to observe these thousands Buddha’s and a cultural and historical beautiful cave!
The end of the kayaking is in weaving and Lao whisky making village. From here we go back to Luang Prabang by Private Local truck or “Songtheow”. Overnight in Luang Prabang

Option: If we are in advance in our schedule and we still have enough energy to paddle, we can continue paddling for around 30 minutes more down to Pak Xeung.
Approximately: 1.5 hours transfer & 5 hours kayaking

Day 3 LUANG PRABANG – BAN LONG LAO – KUANG SI WATERFALLS            (B/L)
We depart from your hotel and drive for around one hour west to Ban Xeng Mouk village where the trek starts.
We begin with a visit to the ethnic Khmu village of Ban Longlao Nung before heading to the nearby Hmong village of Ban Longlao Song. You will be able to observe the lifestyles of these two culturally very different minority groups and see how despite their differences they manage to work together on a day to day basis and even sharing the same school.
As we continue onwards the trail leads through rice paddy and vegetable fields before reaching the mountainous forest. Along the way we explore a cave which was used as a bomb shelter by the locals during the second Indochina war.
After visiting the cave one more hour of trekking brings us to one of the many springs which feeds Kuang Xi waterfalls, here a beautiful pool full of sacred fish can be seen. After descending from the top of the waterfall we enjoy a Lao style lunch amongst some beautiful settings!
The afternoon is spent bathing and relaxing around the turquoise pools below the waterfall. You can also visit the bear conservation center which is located nearby and home to many bears which have been rescued from illegal farms.
Before returning to Luang Prabang we take a short walk to a nearby Khmu village of Ban Thapene which is home to some of the most beautiful pools of Kuang Xi Waterfalls. Overnight in Luang Prabang

Approximately: 2 hours driving, 4 hours trekking

WHEN TO GO ?

From November to February the weather in Laos is cool and dry while March to June sees temperatures soaring in to the high 30s (Celsius). July to October tend to be rainy, washing out some roads thus making rural areas inaccessible. The Lao people are very sociable and if you happen to be in the country during one of their festivals, you are sure to get caught up in the lively atmosphere.
