ITINERARY
Day 1 LUANG PRABANG
Upon arrival welcome by the local guide at Luang Prabang airport, transfer and check-in at the hotel.
Note: Rooms are available from 2pm.
Depart for a first discovery of Luang Prabang, the former royal capital which today is listed as World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Visit Vat Visoun and its Singhalese-style stupa, then the That Makmo, and Vat Aham, one of the main shrines of the city that is dedicated to the ancestors. Afterwards, we will visit the Traditional Art and Ethnology Center to learn about Laos’ many ethnic cultures.
Transfer, late in the afternoon, to attend a traditional Baci ceremony. This is a collective ritual asking the spirits to bring good luck, happiness and prosperity to those who are present. It is practiced on many occasions, from the birth of a child to an inauguration. After the young people pay respect to the elders, a mantra reciting begins to summon the spirits to join the participants. It is also an opportunity to discover traditional Lao dances.
Overnight in Luang Prabang.

DAY 2          LUANG PRABANG–PAK OU–LUANG PRABANG        (B/L)
After breakfast, explore the city with the famous Wat Xieng Thong, considered as the most beautiful temple of Luang Prabang. Its layered roofs going down to the ground make it one of the icons of the city.
Then depart by boat to the temple of Vat Longkhoune, famous for its frescoes of the eighteenth century.   This will be followed by an excursion on a traditional boat along the Mekong River, toward the sacred site of Pak Ou. Along the way, stop at Ban Xang Hai Village, specializing in the sticky rice wine distillation.
Inside a cliff overlooking the river, at the exact spot where the Nam Ou flows into the Mekong, Pak Ou consists of two sacred caves housing thousands of Buddha statues.
Lunch at local restaurant.
In the afternoon, continue by boat toward Ban Xang Khong, a weaving village also renowned for their papermaking.
Arriving back in town, visit the former Royal Palace now a National Museum, which has a collection of personal items that used to belong to the Lao kings.
Overnight in Luang Prabang.

DAY 3   LUANG PRABANG     (KHOUANG SY)            (B/L)
Depart from the hotel in the early morning to watch the daily procession of the monks. The people of Luang Prabang rise up at dawn and respectfully wait for the procession to give alms to the monks (in the form of food, rice, cakes, fruits…). Return back to the hotel.
After breakfast, depart to the beautiful Khouang Sy waterfalls. En route, stop in hill tribe villages to meet the Hmong community.
Late morning, walk towards Khouang Sy waterfalls nestled in lush tropical vegetation. Free time at leisure for swimming in one of the natural pools (if weather permits).
Picnic lunch by the waterfall.
Before returning to Luang Prabang, we stop to visit the Kuang Si Falls Butterfly Park (closed on Tuesday, and from 03rd May to 19th June every year), one of the must-visit spots, where you can have an optional 15-minute tour to learn about butterflies and local flora.
Finally, return back to Luang Prabang by road. For those who are energetic, they may climb on top of Mount Phousi to admire the panoramic view of the peninsula and the Mekong, before a stroll through the city’s night market.
Overnight in Luang Prabang.

In the morning, we embark on a cruise upstream on the Mekong River, which also gives us a breathtaking view of the Overnight in Luang Prabang.

D4 LUANG PRABANG           (B)

WHEN TO GO ?

From November to February the weather in Laos is cool and dry while March to June sees temperatures soaring in to the high 30s (Celsius). July to October tend to be rainy, washing out some roads thus making rural areas inaccessible. The Lao people are very sociable and if you happen to be in the country during one of their festivals, you are sure to get caught up in the lively atmosphere.
